چکیده
In previous communications, we considered the kinetics of the catalase-H202 intermediate in coupled oxidations ofthe isolated liver catalase (Chance, 1949) and of the mixed mitochondrial-peroxisomal fraction (Chance & Oshino, 1971). In those cases, it was possible to record the kinetics of formation of the intermediate by H202 pulses, and solve for the H202 concentration. In most ofthe cases, however, only the analysis of steady-state effects are feasible and will be useful for the further study on the catalase reaction, especially in a system such as the perfused liver. It seems appropriate, therefore, to extend the analysis. The chemical equations for the catalase reactions are:

Metal-catalyzed asymmetric sulfoxidation, epoxidation and hydroxylation by hydrogen peroxide
The development of environmentally benign reactions is an important goal in synthetic organic chemistry and chemical engineering. However, catalytic enantioselective oxidations using transition-metal complexes are limited when the oxidant is hydrogen peroxide. The two main difficulties of using hydrogen peroxide in the presence of transition metal complexes are the homolytic cleavage generating...
متن کاملThe Interactive Effect of Crocin Supplementation on the Alteration of Malondialdehyde and Cardiomyocyte Catalase in Male Rats Poisoned with Hydrogen Peroxide
Background and Objectives: Active oxygen species (ROS) are direct or indirect causes of cell damage. Continuously active heart muscle as an oxidative tissue is one of the tissues susceptible to oxidative damage. Malondialdehyde is one of the lipid peroxidation products, which is considered in the studies as an indicator of oxidative damage level. Crocin is also a carotenoid extracted from Saffr...
متن کاملBacillus pumilus KatX2 confers enhanced hydrogen peroxide resistance to a Bacillus subtilis PkatA::katX2 mutant strain
BACKGROUND Bacillus pumilus cells exhibit a significantly higher resistance to hydrogen peroxide compared to closely related Bacilli like Bacillus subtilis. RESULTS In this study we analyzed features of the catalase KatX2 of B. pumilus as one of the most important parts of the cellular response to hydrogen peroxide. KatX2, the vegetative catalase expressed in B. pumilus, was compared to the v...
متن کاملThe Role of Aldehydes as Degenerate Branching Intermediate in the Oxidation of Hydrocarbons
The thermal oxidation of propane in the temperature range 350-425oC was studied in order to elucidate the role of higher aldehydes as degenerate branching intermediates in the oxidation of hydrocarbons. In the slow combustion of propane, the high yield of propylene and methanol as the primary products, the formation of hydrogen peroxide, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, formaldehyde and steam a...
متن کاملProduction and utilization of hydrogen peroxide associated with melanogenesis and tyrosinase-mediated oxidations of DOPA and dopamine.
The synthesis and involvement of H(2)O(2) during the early stages of melanogenesis involving the oxidations of DOPA and dopamine (diphenolase activity) were established by two sensitive and specific electrochemical detection systems. Catalase-treated reaction mixtures showed diminished rates of H(2)O(2) production during the autoxidation and tyrosinase-mediated oxidation of both diphenols. Inhi...
